Shadow Fight 2 2.33.0

Crouching Stick Man, Hidden Combo

I generally don't like fighting games. Not because I'm against violence or anything. Far from it. But I do not like the idea that I have to learn and remember button mashing combos and then deliver them at breakneck speed. On the other hand I happen to somewhat enjoy CRPG's. So when I saw Shadow Fight 2 described as a sort of mixture of the two genres, I thought it might be worth taking a look.

Shadow Fight 2

In Shadow Fight 2 you will be controlling a character known only as Shadow, in his quest of beating up everybody. In each "act" you will be fighting at different locations in tournaments or survival modes in order to gain experience and money. Money is rather essential. With it you can purchase weapons and garbs (which act as armor, but can also have magical effects). Once you feel confident enough, you can take on the main villain and advance into the next act.

Combat in Shadow Fight 2 mimics the gameplay of classic arcade fighting games. You get an eight-direction pad and two buttons, for kicking and punching. Using a combination of direction and attack, you can perform special moves and attacks that, given their success, can be much more effective than a simple punch or kick. Many attacks are performed in the context of proximity to the enemy, which makes the fight seem reasonably realistic. The black silhouettes can only evoke what that fight would look like on a more capable system. However, the animation does a decent job anyway.

Shadow Fight 2

There is a progression system that involves perks and levels, but it only reveals itself later in the game. At beginning though, you seem to be looking for scraps to get enough coins for a cap. Of course, you can circumvent a lot of grinding if you pay in some real money.

Conclusion

I like the animation style and the animated backgrounds. However, I can't say I enjoy the gameplay very much. Even though you get plenty of time to rehearse your moves and attacks at the dojo, fights still seem a bit too chaotic, and often times you get to lose sight of your own character. I wish that there was a slight difference in color between the two fighters. Despite that, it seems that they put in a fair amount of work and cannot by recommend you try Shadow Fight 2.
